Hope for Treatment. A Path to Access.
Take Back Tomorrow HD Foundation began with a deeply personal reason: founder Julia’s daughter, Brandalin, is gene-positive for Huntington’s disease.
For their family, the search for treatment is personal. As potential treatments advance, there is growing hope that the future of HD could look different. There is still uncertainty about which therapies will succeed and when they may become available. But preparing for access cannot wait until approval day.
As Julia researched emerging treatments and the systems families would need to navigate, she recognized a gap: an approved treatment does not automatically mean an accessible treatment.
Families may face insurance delays, gaps in coverage, costs they cannot afford, or a complicated process they have little support to navigate. Take Back Tomorrow was formed to help close that gap.
Preparing for the Cost of Access
Our goal is to help eligible patients access FDA-approved HD treatments when financial barriers stand in the way.
We are building support for situations such as:
- A treatment has received FDA approval, but an insurer has not yet established coverage or authorized care.
- A patient receives Social Security Disability Insurance but is still in the waiting period for Medicare.
- Insurance covers treatment, but copays, deductibles, or other out-of-pocket costs remain unaffordable.
- A patient has no insurance or inadequate coverage.
- Travel, lodging, or other necessary costs make reaching a qualified treatment center difficult.
We are raising funds and developing partnerships now so we can respond as treatments become available. Our planned treatment assistance will prioritize payments directly to hospitals, treatment centers, and licensed providers.
Our focus is funding access to treatment—and preparing before families need it.
Advocating for Timely, Fair Access
Financial assistance is only part of the solution. Patients also need systems that respond to the urgency of Huntington’s disease.
We advocate for rigorous, timely FDA review of potential HD treatments and the appropriate use of pathways that can bring safe and effective therapies to patients sooner.
When treatments receive approval, we will push for timely Medicare and other insurance coverage decisions, clear eligibility requirements, and fewer avoidable administrative delays. Our goal is to keep patients’ needs at the center of decisions about access.
Helping Families Understand What Comes Next
The treatment landscape can be difficult to follow. Clinical trials, regulatory decisions, insurance policies, and headlines often leave families with more questions than answers.
We aim to provide clear, accessible education about HD treatments and their progress through the development pipeline. That includes helping communities understand the difference between an investigational therapy, an FDA-approved treatment, and a treatment that insurance will cover.
We want families to understand what is known, what remains uncertain, and what steps they can take to prepare—without overstating progress or promising outcomes.
No Family Should Have to Navigate This Alone
Julia’s family has spent years learning how to research, ask questions, and advocate. That experience revealed how much work is required—and how unevenly that support is available.
Not every patient has someone who can interpret research, challenge an insurance denial, coordinate care, or find financial assistance. Access should not depend on a family’s income, connections, or ability to navigate a complicated system.
Take Back Tomorrow exists to help make the path clearer and treatment more reachable.
